Konami Digital Entertainment has formally released a comprehensive set of guidelines for creators who produce and share video content based on the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. The new policy specifically addresses footage from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game (OCG) and its various video game adaptations.
The guidelines are designed to clarify what is permissible for fan-created content, such as duel replays, tutorial videos, box openings, and online matches. Konami explicitly states that such non-commercial, fan-driven content is generally welcomed, fostering the vibrant online community that surrounds the popular trading card game. The company encourages creators to be inventive and to produce content that celebrates the game.
However, the rules establish clear boundaries to protect intellectual property. They strictly prohibit the use of any Yu-Gi-Oh!-related content for commercial ventures without express prior licensing. This includes selling videos, using them in paid promotions, or incorporating them into monetized apps. Furthermore, the guidelines forbid the sharing of unreleased card information obtained through unauthorized means and any content that could be considered slanderous, offensive, or that misrepresents official tournament rules.
This move provides much-needed clarity for the global community of Yu-Gi-Oh! enthusiasts and content creators, outlining a framework that supports fan engagement while safeguarding the integrity of the brand. Creators are advised to review the full guidelines to ensure their channels remain compliant.
