Sony has revealed the free games coming to PlayStation Plus in August, and the lineup leans heavily into atmospheric horror, open-world survival, and meditative exploration. Headlining the month is the critically acclaimed survival horror title "Signalis," a tense, retro-styled game that blends sci-fi dread with psychological terror. Players step into the boots of Elster, a technician searching for her lost partner on a derelict space station. The game draws heavy inspiration from classics like "Resident Evil" and "Silent Hill," but carves its own identity with a striking pixel art aesthetic and a deeply unsettling narrative about memory and loss.
Joining "Signalis" is "Dying Light 2 Stay Human," Techland's massive first-person parkour zombie game. Set in a sprawling, infected city, players must climb, leap, and fight through hordes of the undead while making choices that shape the world. The game offers a dense open world with a heavy emphasis on vertical movement and brutal melee combat. For those who missed it at launch, this is a solid chance to experience one of the more ambitious zombie games of the last few years.
Rounding out the August offerings is "The Big Walk," a slower, more contemplative experience. The game is exactly what it sounds like: a long, uninterrupted walk through a procedurally generated landscape. There are no enemies, no puzzles, and no combat. Instead, players simply move forward through changing environments, accompanied by a dynamic soundtrack. It is a game about the journey itself, not the destination.
All three titles will be available to download for PlayStation Plus subscribers starting August 6.
