Xbox Confirms Gears of War E-Day Launches in October, No PS5 Version Planned

Microsoft has officially announced that Gears of War E-Day will arrive in October, putting an end to months of speculation about the game's release window. The announcement also came with a clear message for PlayStation owners: this one is staying exclusive to Xbox and PC.

The news confirms earlier reports that the long-anticipated prequel would skip Sony's console entirely. While Xbox has recently brought several former exclusives to PlayStation platforms, including Pentiment, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves, the company drew a firm line with its flagship franchise. A spokesperson stated that Gears of War remains a core pillar of the Xbox ecosystem, and the decision to keep E-Day exclusive was made to honor the series' legacy and deliver the definitive experience on Xbox hardware.

Gears of War E-Day is set to explore the origins of the Locust War, focusing on the first encounter between humanity and the subterranean threat. The game is being developed by The Coalition, the studio behind Gears 5 and Gears Tactics. Early previews suggest a return to the series' darker, horror-infused roots, with a heavier emphasis on survival and close-quarters combat.

The October launch window places it squarely in the holiday season, competing with other major releases. Xbox also confirmed that the game will be available on Game Pass from day one, giving subscribers immediate access. Pre-orders are expected to open in the coming weeks, with a standard edition and a premium Collector's Edition rumored to include a replica of the iconic Lancer rifle.

For PlayStation fans hoping to see Marcus Fenix on their console, the message is clear: not this time.
