Going Hands-On With Edge of Memories—Living on the Razor’s Edge

CGM recently went hands-on with Edge of Memories, the upcoming action RPG from Midgar Studio. The game, still in development, aims to blend fast-paced combat with a narrative that explores themes of memory and identity. During the preview session, players were dropped into a world where reality feels fragile, and every decision carries weight.

The combat system stood out immediately. It feels responsive and fluid, with a focus on timing and positioning rather than simple button mashing. Players can chain together light and heavy attacks, dodge enemy strikes, and unleash special abilities tied to a resource that builds during fights. The demo featured a few enemy types, each requiring a different approach. Some rushed in aggressively, while others hung back and fired projectiles, forcing the player to stay mobile.

The visual style is striking, with hand-painted environments that feel both vibrant and melancholic. Character models are detailed, and the animations are smooth, though the build was not final. The story, as hinted at in the demo, revolves around a protagonist who can enter the memories of others. This mechanic is used both in combat and exploration, allowing the player to uncover secrets or alter past events to change the present.

Edge of Memories is shaping up to be a thoughtful action RPG that values player skill and narrative depth. While the release date has not been announced, the preview left a strong impression. Fans of the genre should keep an eye on this one.
