Lego reveals Sega Genesis / Mega Drive console, bringing 479 of retro charm this summer

Lego has officially announced its next nostalgic collaboration, this time with Sega. The new set recreates the iconic Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive in many regions, and it is set to launch this summer. The model contains 479 pieces and offers a clever twist for builders: the console can be customized to reflect either the North American Genesis design or the Japanese and European Mega Drive look.

The set includes a detailed replica of the console itself, complete with a cartridge slot and controller ports. It also comes with a miniature game controller and a cartridge that can be inserted into the console. While Lego has not yet confirmed which game is featured on the cartridge, the build is clearly aimed at fans of the 16-bit era. The set captures the distinct shape and color scheme of the original hardware, with the Genesis version featuring a black and red palette, while the Mega Drive variant uses a darker, more rounded design with blue accents.

This release follows Lego's recent trend of building retro gaming hardware, including the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Atari 2600 sets. The Sega set is expected to appeal to collectors and gamers who grew up with classics like Sonic the Hedgehog. Pricing and an exact release date have not been announced, but the set is expected to hit shelves in the coming months.
