Microsoft’s Xbox Mode hits Windows 11 PCs today

Microsoft’s Xbox Mode hits Windows 11 PCs today

Starting today, Windows 11 PC owners can switch their machines into a dedicated Xbox Mode. This new feature transforms the desktop into a full-screen, controller-friendly interface designed for gaming from the couch or a living room setup. Instead of navigating the usual mouse-and-keyboard Windows desktop, users can boot directly into a streamlined environment that resembles the Xbox dashboard.

The mode focuses on quick access to installed games, the Xbox Game Pass library, and system settings without requiring a keyboard or mouse. Microsoft has optimized the interface for gamepad navigation, making it easier to launch titles, adjust audio, and manage friends lists. The update arrives as part of a broader push to unify the Windows and Xbox ecosystems, allowing PC gamers to enjoy a console-like experience on their hardware.

Early tests show the mode boots faster than a standard Windows login and hides most desktop clutter. Users can toggle the feature on or off from the system settings menu. While the mode is optional, it signals Microsoft's intent to blur the line between PC and console gaming, giving players more choice in how they interact with their games. The rollout begins today and should appear on compatible Windows 11 systems through a standard update.
