System Critical 3 Review - A Poorly Designed Arcade Shooter

System Critical 3 wears its retro arcade heart on its sleeve, but that nostalgic ambition quickly turns into a frustrating mess. Designed as a wave-based shooter for virtual reality, it tries to channel the frantic energy of classic rail shooters, but the execution is so flawed that it becomes one of the most disappointing VR releases in recent memory.

The core problem is the controls. Aiming feels floaty and imprecise, with weapons that lack any real punch or feedback. Enemies pop in and out with little warning, and the hit detection is so inconsistent that you will often fire directly at a target only to see the shot pass through without effect. This turns every encounter into a guessing game, not a test of skill. The game also struggles with its pacing, throwing hordes of enemies at you in cramped, repetitive arenas that feel more like a chore than a challenge.

Visually, the game is a blur of neon and grey, with textures that look dated even by VR standards. The audio does not help either, with a soundtrack that loops endlessly and sound effects that are either too quiet or overwhelmingly loud. There is no story to speak of, just a thin excuse to keep shooting. For anyone looking for a polished, engaging VR shooter, System Critical 3 is a clear miss. It feels less like a tribute to the arcade era and more like a poorly designed tech demo that should have stayed in development. Save your money and your time.
