New Video Game Lets Players Live Through the Hundred Years’ War

New Video Game Lets Players Live Through the Hundred Years’ War

A new historical role-playing game is aiming to immerse players in the gritty realities of late medieval Europe, allowing them to step into the lives of more than a thousand real historical figures from the era of the Hundred Years' War. Instead of focusing on a single hero or a fictional savior, the game presents a sprawling, interwoven narrative where every character has their own agenda, family, and fate. Players can choose to be a French peasant struggling through the Black Death, an English knight seeking glory at the Battle of Agincourt, or a merchant navigating the shifting alliances of Burgundy and France.

The game's developers have emphasized historical accuracy over fantasy. There are no dragons, no magic spells, and no easy moral choices. Instead, the world reacts to the player's decisions with the harsh logic of the 14th and 15th centuries. A failed harvest can lead to starvation. A wrong political alliance can get a whole village burned. The game's massive database of characters is drawn from actual parish records, tax rolls, and chronicles, meaning that players will encounter names and stories that were once real. The goal, the creators say, is to make history feel immediate and personal, not like a textbook. Early previews highlight the game's deep simulation of economy, disease, and warfare, promising a unique and often brutal experience for those who want to truly understand the past.
