Tomodachi Life doesn’t support Switch 2’s ‘handheld mode boost’ because it runs at 1080p in handheld, Nintendo says

Tomodachi Life doesn’t support Switch 2’s ‘handheld mode boost’ because it runs at 1080p in handheld, Nintendo says

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a notable "handheld mode boost" for many existing titles, but the quirky life simulation game Tomodachi Life will not be among them. According to Nintendo, this is not due to a lack of optimization, but rather because the game already runs at its maximum intended visual setting.

Nintendo clarified that Tomodachi Life already renders at a full 1080p resolution when played in handheld mode on the current Switch hardware. Because the game is already operating at this peak resolution, the new console's enhanced handheld capabilities will not provide a further visual increase. The game's performance and clarity are already designed to meet its specific artistic style on the portable screen.

Importantly, the company confirmed that the game will still benefit from the new hardware in a key way. When played on the Switch 2, the touchscreen functionality will remain fully active. This ensures that the core interactive experience of managing the lives of Mii characters is preserved and fully playable without the need for external controllers. Players can expect the same vibrant, high-definition presentation and tactile gameplay they currently enjoy when the title arrives on the new system.
